Gites
are cottages that are used for holiday rentals. Traditionally,
a Gite was a farm-workers
cottage or servant’s quarters. Nowadays, the term is
also used for any property given over to holiday accommodation.
They are an extremely popular choice of self-catering accommodation all over France.
Gite
provides you with various activities like cycling, walking,
fishing, horse
riding, golfing, and water sports – the choice is yours!
Since Gites are generally concentrated in charming
towns and villages, you get a chance to visit various traditional
fairs celebrated during the year where you can involve
yourself
in various resources, food and heritage. It is also
possible to visit farms in the area that are over 70 years
old to
taste and buy the exquisite cuisine.
As
far as accommodation is concerned, it varies from Gite
to Gite. Originally, they use to provide
a very basic form of accommodation. But with clients
nowadays becoming more sophisticated, the Gites are equipped
with
latest facilities. Today, Gites come with beds, CTV,
well equipped kitchens …
Some Gites even provide swimming pool, play area (table
tennis, table football and a snooker table) and a secluded
secure garden. Barbecue service is also made available on
request.
Remember
that most Gites do not provide towels or linens, so make
sure you carry them along. But
one can get them on hire, for which you’ll need to
state clearly on the booking form. Other than that
carry along swimming costumes, sun-tan lotion and beach and
pool
towels. |
